Dear Amanda Me too- I love reading your blog and I'm full of admiration for what you hae to endure, yet still remain so positive. As others have already said, let's carry on the support and care for each other. We had a lovely time at Garda despite the weather, the highlight was Ferragosto on 15th August. It's a massive event in Italy, particularly in Garda, where Our Lady is their special guardian- there's an illuminated statue of her high up overlooking the town. The local church is the Church of the Assumption and mass there on 15th was wonderful- such heartfelt singing. I was quite tearful. In the evening there was a boat race on the lake, betwen the various 'contrade' or districts in the town. This was proceeded by a procession of the townspeople in medieval costume, the boat crews and a band. We also had flag waving display - an Italian speciality, their skill was amazing. Earlier in the day, a herald on horseback, again dressed in costume, stopped at various parts of the town to announce the race. And at 11pm, all finished off with a stunning firework display. All this in a tiny town- they certainly know how to celebrate.
I hope things improve for you.
Thinking of you
Much love
Maria x

Hi,
For Maria- Yes! The Italians (and Spanish) really do celebrate the Feasts of the Church in true traditional manner! I love all the processions and the Assumption must have been quite beautiful there as it is one of the main Feasts of Our Lady anyway. That's why we're traddie- we belong to a very traditional Church and only go to the Latin Mass..
Well, the thrush made a come back when I forgot to apply the cream for two times! Oh joy! So up I was spreading it liberally- I just want it to GO, vanish, scoot... It is so embarrassingly annoying! (LOL)
today we began the Great Re-decoration of our bedroom which sounds rather simple but in this house nothing ever is. Poor Mark has to basically make everything (in the room) from scratch as no furniture will get up or come down our winding wooden stairs! This proves so very difficult- our flat packed wardrobes are already here but they need to remain down in the lounge and be taken out plank by plank and up the stairs! Firstly, Mark has broken up our old, horrid, never-closing wardrobe which was evidently hand made too and not well, and then made us our own hanging rail- I am so impressed with this hanging rail I may even take a few photos so he can remember that he can do some DIY.....nothing has fallen down yet anyway and we have alot of clothes on there..
Then Mark emptied our entire bedroom- some things are in our library, and others in the bathroom! It feels disorientating but VERY exciting to be decorating our bedroom in time for the Baby which will also be his/her room for over a year, or more.....no nurseries for us!
The bedroom is very old obviously so we're just painting it in timeless which is white with a tint of something creamy (my brother's partner has this and has a dream home so I am copying!) and we have many paintings to cover the walls.....the wardrobes are white too. The main problem is the horrendous flowered carpet which is all uneven as the floor isn't boarded- the quote we had to re-carpet made us weep so Mark may try and expose the floor boards and we'll buy or beg a big rug from some where like in our lounge and library....
Whilst Mark is busy painting we are going to attempt to sleep in our lounge on our new sofa bed- the children all gasped in amazement when we presented them with our idea and one of them, sheepishly, pointed out that we both wouldn't fit it- he does have a good point- Mark is a big man and I am no longer slim....ha ha, will be fun, I hope!
Love,
Amanda

I can empathise with the upheavals Amanda. I have just decorated my bedroom with the help of a friend. It was last done when I was expecting my fifth baby, who will be 15 next week!
All I can say is - make sure you don't 'make do' with half a job, like we did. I couldn't wait to be back in my own bed and said I didn't mind about the brown door and hideous carpet. I have only just got rid of these this week!!
Good luck with all the jobs, make sure you don't overdo it XX Ailsa

Sunday, 22nd August
I was hoping the post wasn't too mundane, i know so many people are always decorating etc but this is a real one off for us! We have had three rooms renovated here but all were done by our brilliant builder..
I think this will be even more special as Mark is doing it himself, especially as it is our bedroom. Last night we slept in our empty room with a blanket attached to the window as a pseudo-curtain!
It was quite annoying waking up early and having to go downstairs to rummage about and find clothes and then go back upstairs to get dressed and washed!
Anyway, all part of the greater adventure I suppose! We have decided that because of Mark's work (he's on a course tomorrow for two days) he will begin the painting on Friday evening and finish the entire lot off at the weekend so we only have to sleep down here for those few days....Hmm, not too sure about being parted from my clothes and personal things but it;s only for a few days..
Thank you for mentioning carpets and getting the job done properly- I agree with this sentiment and we cannot afford carpet as we'd need to board it too and it is too expensive but today Mark pulled up the vile green carpet and we have lovely wooden floor boards- ancient of course and in need of polishing etc etc but we're happy as we can now buy two large rugs..I have already seen some I like and they're not as expensive as carpet and compliment the room..
The negative aspect of today is that Mark was filling in all the various holes in the room with this strong foam type thing and it has wrecked his hands! It really has almost torn the skin off- he's tried a bath, oils, scrubbing and it won't come off- it's like super glue so now he'll have to scare people at work tomorrow! I feel so sorry for him, it looks nasty and the instructions didn't say to wear gloves etc!
(Hoping this won't begin the 'I want to be an academic, I give up all DIY forever-type-of-attitude!LOLOL).
So, I am not really doing much although it is a stress seeing everything all over the place....still at last all Patrick's clothes have finally left our room and gone up to his own wardrobe- now he has to learn to fold and put all his clothes away properly...eek.
Marie and i peeked at moses baskets and those types of gorgeous things today but I am not buying a single thing until I am n hospital- I will have a list for Marie and she will order the few things we need (I am not buying hardly anything) and I will give her the money. She is also in charge of ordering the Baptismal cake which i will describe and her and Mark will go and order once baby is born. It will need to be ordered as soon as possible..
SOOOO exciting- 27 weeks today- just cannot fathom that in 10 weeks time, God willing, I will be holding a newborn!
Love, Amanda

As my clothes are now residing downstairs in the library and I am getting dressed upstairs in the semi-privacy of my bedroom (not very private when the bus stops outside my house..LOL) I did something REALLY pregnant today!
I took the clothes I needed to get dressed upstairs but forgot my KNICKERS!!!!!!!!!! LOLOL
I won't tell you how long it was until I realised that little mistake!
Really, this is very confusing for an expectant Mam.
Mark's hands are better and no one asked him if he has leprosy at work today! Poor thing..he did come home holding more plyfilla though and is upstairs now finishing off the holes (we have so many!)....
Oh well, that was all I have to say as I only wrote yesterday and have had a quiet day (it has been pouring so heavily our garden is flooded), reading, reading to various children, playing chess, picking blackberries and then making blackberry and apple crumble, and making meals and drinking sparkling water (the only drink I can manage through out the day as I am having to drink 6 glasses every single day!)....oh and eating, loads.
Love,
Amanda

Good to hear Mark s poor hands are now on the mend, they must have been so sore.

Hi Amanda, I'm glad to hear things are moving along renovation wise in time for the baby being born. It's lovely to hear that you can eat at last. Isn't it time you started slowing down a bit? As if - lol.

Friday 27th August
Can you believe I did it again the next morning! It is having all our clothes in the library and the underwear in suit cases! It baffles my small and mushy brain....
I was so sick on Weds eve, it felt like the first few weeks again. I am not too sure why, I may have just not digested my meal properly but i was sick before bed and then twice through out the night- eeww.
The painting begins tomorrow which is exciting although it will mean me and my bump and Mark and his bump !, sleeping downstairs in the sofa bed......it may prove to be cosy?
I am happy as the two little boys are now home from my parent's house- they had a fabulous time at the 'Believe it or not' museum in London and then the Rainforest Cafe where they sat next to two gorillas. They've been swimming today so they are tired...having their pizzas watching a Sherlock Holmes which Ben got for his birthday.
Love,
Amanda

31st August
Please can I have a few prayers? Today I was called by one of the GPs (the one I saw two weeks ago concerning the dreaded thrush) and he told me I have a UTI!
The sample was from 20th August and he said the other anti biotics I was given wouldn't have helped anyway! I feel overlooked and a little cross as this has obviously carried on and the UTI can sometimes cause the uterus to contract!
GP said it is best to take the next load asap- I was so worried about thrush again that he's given me the creams etc with the anti biotics! I am not risking that again, it was horrible.
The other quite disconcerting aspect of this is I don't have any obvious symptoms...so it may have been around for ages.
Anyway, apart from that news all is quiet- I am exceptionally tired and feel sick often still. VERY excited though!
I have decided to say no to any meds during the pregnancy- all is so calm and quiet with the RA you wouldn't guess I had it. The only pain I get is on getting in the bath- which is a challenge anyway- as my hips hurt. When the left hip began to twinge I thought OH NO but ti goes off.
I am so grateful for this time free of pain and suffering- it is indeed a gift and one I will always be thankful for. I definitely feel my most happiest at the moment although I do swing to sheer terror too which is a very odd place to be.
Much love,
Amanda

We will be glad to pray for Sharon and her unborn baby. That is such wonderfully happy news!
The new anti biotics have had a dreadful affect- they have made me violently sick! I know this is my achilles heel anyway but I awoke in the night with my gagging reflux and was SO ill. Then today I have been sick twice.
Mark checked the brand of anti biotics out on the web for me and says they can cause sickness! Oh Joy!
I know I must take them and the sickness is only sickness but it is such a bore!
Mark is off to Swindon tomorrow to teach a course for two days but he is returning home at night, phew.
I just dropped my mobile phone in the bath- how mushy brained can one be???? Mark is drying it all out next to him whilst watching some religious documentary!
Tomorrow we are attempting an outing to Babies R us and Toys R us- not to huy anything as I am not purchasing one thing until baby is born but to get a present for Malachy's friend and to check out the prams!
Love,
A
